Perspectives

Perspectives of my place
For the perspectives section of the “my place project” I chose to use my brother and friend Ethan’s view of the pond.
Let’s begin with my brother, who has shared many moments with me back there. I started by asking “Isaac, what do you think about the pond?” At first I didn’t get much information out of him as he was probably unaware of why in the heck I was asking him this stuff. I eventually started to squeeze out his views and perspectives on the pond. He said “I really like the pond, that’s where you taught me to fish”. I was completely shocked on his response and was proud to be behind a part of his memory like that. At first you might wonder why my brother remembering me as the first one to take him fishing is so sentimental. At some point in almost every person’s life there will be a time when they learn to fish. If you ask anyone who the first person was to teach them to fish I can guarantee, without hesitation, you will receive not only an answer, but an interesting story as well. Now you can see why I’m so proud my brother remembers us going fishing, that memory will carry with him throughout his life.
I would love to write and brag about my brother’s surprising response to my question all day, but I have another person’s perspective to write about dammit!
During one of my weekend’s home I got in touch with my longtime friend Ethan who has shared a few memories with me at the pond. His initial reaction to me asking him random questions about the pond was the same as Isaac’s, “why are you asking me this stuff?” After I explained that this was a class project he was reluctant to help me. It was a good time catching up with him and listening to his memories of our hangout place as kids. Many of the things he said I was able to get a good laugh at. For example, he mentioned the day we were back there fishing and my lure got caught on a log. Normally, when fishing, and I get a snag I’m able to jerk it free or even walk out through the creek in my waiters and grab it with my hands. It just so happened that I couldn’t jerk it free and it was in a pond which means I couldn’t walk out in my waiters to grab it. I’m not sure if you are aware that the price of fishing lures aren’t cheap at even the lowest price. The lure that is stuck just so happens to be my Dad’s brand new 2012 pin minnow, which was priced at about $12. I bet by now you’re wanting to ask me “what did you do?” If that’s the case, well then have an answer for you; you can bet your bottom dollar I stripped down to nothing, jumped in the water, and freed my lure from a log.
